Solar Gateways are a series of structures, powered by the sun, that are large enough to walk or drive through,
whose lighting works together in concert, to achieve various effects.
The Gateway to Dreams is a solar charged, dark activated electroluminescent wire display with various salvaged
glittery, glowing, color scrolling or blinking objects incorporated for additional interest. Having nine gates
that will light in sequence, this form of the installation is designed to be a walk through piece of interactive
art. Various programming options exist as to the order, speed and duration of the stair stepping effect, and this
will be changed nightly throughout the event.
By day, The Gateway is an interesting array of white lycra mixed with splashes of color. The colorful solar arrays
will power the batteries used for the nightly displays. By day the lycra projection screens act as a shade structure,
encouraging participants to linger and discuss the design and construction of the piece, and the related topics and
issues that this brings to mind. Information on green energy will be available to participants to facilitate debate
and discussion.
By night, The Gateway lights up, attracting the participant. Bottle Lights pave the way into the structure, where
the EL wire lights and massed solar charged stringlights blink their hypnotic patterns. Interactive videos will be
mixed with canned ones and laser light shows; all will be projected onto the screen areas on the top of the structure.
Additional Bottle Lights, which are made with color scrolling RGB LEDs, add to the visual rhythm. Participants can
charge glowing areas with provided Solar Charged UV Flashlights, or wear various diffraction pattern glasses to
experience The Gateway in a whole new light. Both elements have proved to be very popular additions at past gatherings.
